Frequently Asked Questions

Ask us anything.

The questions developers, designers, and homeowners ask most, answered straight.

What exactly is the FlowStone system?

FlowStone is a seamless, fluid-applied flooring system (CSI 09 67 00). It is poured directly onto the substrate and hand-finished in place, so the floor becomes one continuous surface with the veined depth of natural stone. No planks, no tiles, no grout lines, no transitions. And because the veining is worked in by hand, every floor is an original.

How does FlowStone compare to LVP or polished concrete?

LVP and carpet are familiar choices that work on a replacement cycle: units are typically refloored at turnover as wear accumulates. Polished concrete is genuinely durable, with a tighter range of color and finish. FlowStone takes a different path. It is installed once, bonds to the structure, and is maintained with standard cleaning. Which approach fits best depends on your building and your plans for it, and we are glad to walk through the comparison with you.

How durable is FlowStone?

The numbers are published. Tensile strength of 4,100 psi per ASTM D638, impact resistance of 160 or more inch-pounds per ASTM D2794, hardness of 75 Shore D per ASTM D2240, and abrasion of 22 mg loss per ASTM D4060. The surface is scratch resistant, stain resistant, and pet friendly, and it carries a Class A fire rating per ASTM E84 with 0 flame spread and 0 smoke developed.

How do I clean and maintain a FlowStone floor?

Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove loose debris, and damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner as needed. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and acidic solutions. FlowStone never needs waxing, stripping, or refinishing, and standard turnover cleaning is all that is required between tenants.

How long does installation take?

A standard apartment unit of 800 to 1,500 square feet typically takes three days. Day one is surface preparation and the Crust base coat. Day two is the base finish and the Color coat. Day three is the Clear coat and final inspection. The floor accepts light foot traffic 24 hours after the final sealer and full occupancy 72 hours after the final sealer.

Where can FlowStone be installed?

FlowStone is an interior system. It installs over prepared concrete, gypsum concrete with proper preparation, and wood subfloors fitted with magnesium cement board underlayment. It serves apartments, corridors, amenity spaces, hospitality settings, and high-end residences. It is not for exterior use or areas of constant water submersion, and concrete must be at least 28 days old before installation.

How does FlowStone perform for impact sound?

Most building codes require a minimum Impact Insulation Class of IIC 50, and FlowStone meets code in every tested configuration, on wood-frame and concrete assemblies alike. Where a project calls for quieter, acoustic mats raise ratings into the luxury tier of IIC 60 to 69 and the ultra tier of IIC 70 and above. Configuration data is published on our resources page.

How does the lifecycle math work?

Do the arithmetic on any floor you are considering. Count the first installation, then every replacement over the life of the building, plus the labor, disposal, and vacancy days each cycle brings. FlowStone is poured once and maintained with standard cleaning, so its column is one installation and a mop. Run both columns for your own building and compare the totals.

What warranty comes with FlowStone?

FlowStone Luxury Flooring Systems are backed by warranties available through certified applicators. Terms vary by system configuration and application. Contact us for the complete terms that apply to your project.

Can I see FlowStone before specifying it?

Yes, and we recommend it. Request samples from any collection, then preview colors in your own space with the visualizer. Before any installation we suggest a job site sample panel, poured on your substrate and viewed in your light, because that is the honest way to approve a hand-finished floor.
